It happens to all of us… you’re following your meal plan so well and start seeing great results, but then something comes up. A long road trip can threaten to throw you off your game. Don’t let a fun trip get in the way of you and your goals. Pack a few of these in your car and your body will thank you.
Apple and Nut Butter
This combo never gets old. Pick your favorite type of apple and your favorite nut butter. Our favorites are almond and cashew.
If your road trip is pretty long, you might want to bring an ice pack to keep this snack cool. Chia pudding is made by combining chia seeds with almond milk. Check out this recipe, it’s super filling and loaded with healthy fats.
These are a good replacement for chips. They definitely satisfy the crunchy and salty craving. Try brands like Biena and The Good Bean.
A great fruit for decreasing inflammation. Pineapple is high in bromelain, which has been used to reduce swelling, easing digestion, and reducing muscle or joint pain.
Traditional jerky or a jerky bar will give you the protein you need to get you through the drive. Pair this with a fruit to also get a boost of energy from carbohydrates.
Choose a trail mix with minimal ingredients. Avoid any with excess oils and sugars. Look for almonds, walnuts, raisins, and even some dark chocolate.
These now come in single serving packs that are perfect for road trips. They will give you a dose of healthy fats that will keep you full for the ride.
Carrots and Hummus
A great snack to up your fiber intake. Switch it up and use celery or bell peppers, and pick a fun hummus flavor like roasted red pepper or jalapeno.
Seaweed is a great source of iodine, a nutrient key in thyroid function. They may not be the most filling snack but paired with a few other options on this list they’re a great addition. You can even grab vegetarian sushi in to-go containers, they’re filled with veggies like avocado, carrots, and cucumber.
Avoiding dairy is best when trying to lose weight. That doesn’t mean you have to give up your yogurt though. Look for a non-dairy yogurt like coconut or almond that is lower in sugar and has a few grams of protein.
There are plenty of unhealthy snack bars out there, but Rx Bars have minimal ingredients. With egg white, fruit, and nuts they’re a perfect all in one snack.
Either bring your protein powder with you or mix your shake at home and bring it with you. Throw a few ice cubes in your bottle and it should be good for a few hours.
